Amazon this week moved past Berkshire Hathaway to become the fifth largest company in the world by market value.
Jeff Bezos’ commerce giant surpassed the holding company of iconic investor Warren Buffet, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, when Amazon’s value peaked at more than $356 billion.
Amazon, founded in 1994 in Seattle, generated $107 billion in revenue last year. Despite Amazon having over 200,000 employees, founder Bezos still owns 18% of the company, rendering his stake at $64 billion. This means Bezos is now worth more than Buffet ($61 billion) and is the third-richest human on earth, behind only Bill Gates ($75B) and Amancio Ortega ($67B).
