Spotify Launches in Canada

Spotify has launched in Canada.

After a small beta, the music streaming company has launched with 20 million songs and Canadian content.

Spotify boasts 40 million active users worldwide. It joins Songza and Rdio as Canadians’ limited list of music streaming options slowly expands.

“When Spotify launches in a specific country we always make sure that the experience is curated for local tastes and culture,” the company said. “Spotify in Canada is … much more than just the Canadian version of Spotify in the US.”

Users have created 1.5 billion playlists on Spotify so far. The company has paid out $1 billion to rightsholders since it launched.

Spotify originally planned to launch here in 2012.
