Apple Launches COVID-19 Screening App and Resource Website

Created with guidance from CDC, the White House Coronavirus Task Force and FEMA, the new screening tool and website will help keep US citizens informed with up-to-date information on the coronavirus outbreak.

  • Apple creates a COVID-19 self-screening app and accompanying resource website partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the White House Coronavirus Task Force and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). 
  • Available to all US citizens over the age of 18, the app and website will guide users through a series of questions focused around risk factors, recent virus exposure, and symptoms.
  • Based on their answers, users then  CDC recommendations on the next steps including guidance on self-isolating and whether or not a test is recommended.

Apple’s new COVID-19 self-assessment app and website aims to help US citizens safeguard their health as the coronavirus pandemic continues to take its toll on health-care systems. 

Developed in partnership with the CDC and other government bodies, the app is available to all US citizens over the age of 18. After being guided through a series of questions including virus exposure and symptoms, users are prompted with CDC recommendations based on their specific answers including a push to contact a medical provider and when to contact emergency services. 

In addition to the questionnaire, the website and app offer users access to information to help them stay informed. “Users will receive answers to frequently asked questions about COVID-19, including who is most at risk and how to recognize symptoms,” Apple said in the announcement. “In addition, they will learn the most up-to-date information from the CDC like best practices for washing hands, disinfecting surfaces and monitoring symptoms.” 

Keeping in line with its dedication to user privacy Apple’s COVID-19 tools will not require a sign-in and will not be associated with a user’s Apple ID. 

Apple customers across the US looking for a quick answer are now able to ask Siri questions like, “How do I know if I have coronavirus?” and receive access resources and guidance from the CDC. 

US citizens over the age of 18 can access Apple’s screening tool and resources by downloading the COVID-19 app on the App Store or visiting apple.com/covid19.

Apple joins the growing list of brands and companies helping in the fight against COVID-19. Airbnb recently announced plans to help 100,000 healthcare workers, first responders, and relief workers around the world by providing free or subsidized accommodations.
