Carrot Rewards Wins Innovation Award at World Government Summit

Public wellness is something every government and country can get behind.

Carrot Rewards has been announced as the global winner of the OECD’s 2019 Edge of Government Award at the World Government Summit in Dubai, a conference where senior government delegates gather to discuss trends and innovative technologies shaping their countries. The Toronto-based startup was chosen from over 500 submissions from around the world.

“Our entire extended team of employees, government partners and stakeholders across Canada and the UK is beaming with pride today,” said Andreas Souvaliotis, founder and CEO of Carrot Rewards. “Our goal has always been to touch and improve as many lives as possible, and this type of global recognition by the OECD is the best fuel to accelerate our growth across the world.”

Carrot is a wellness app focused on getting its users out and walking by rewarding points based on meeting specific step counter goals. Carrot recently hit one million users at the end of 2018 (and gave out their one-billionth point in March) and launched a new subscription service that enables their users to earn points more quickly. Users can earn points towards a number of Carrot’s partners, including Aeroplan, SCENE, Drop, Petro-Points, and RBC Rewards. Carrot works closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada to keep users active and instill a sense of wellness into their consumer base.

The Edge of Government award rewards companies when “brilliant ideas meet decisive action,” according to the World Government Summit’s website. Carrot was chosen due to their ability to “Communicate a message on a nation-wide scale by letting citizens experience it and award them for their efforts.”
