TD, RBC and Hootsuite Top LinkedIn’s Canadian Companies to Work For in 2018

LinkedIn has released their Top Companies 2018 list, indicating the organizations across Canada where professionals want to work the most.

The list is based on the billions of actions taken by LinkedIn members and focuses on four distinct pillars: interest in the company, engagement with the company’s employees, job demand, and employee retention. LinkedIn and Microsoft are excluded from all lists for objectivity reasons, and then the results are all normalized. To be included, companies must have over 500 employees.

The top 25 companies in Canada in 2018 according to LinkedIn are:

  • TD Bank
  • RBC
  • Hootsuite
  • Amazon
  • KPMG Canada
  • Suncor Energy
  • WSP
  • Shopify
  • CIBC
  • SNC-Lavalin
  • Lululemon
  • National Bank of Canada
  • Rogers Communications
  • Accenture
  • BMO
  • EY
  • Salesforce
  • Scotiabank
  • Canadian Tire
  • Aecon Group
  • IBM
  • Bell
  • Sun Life Financial
  • Loblaw
  • TransCanada

In terms of industry, banks are well-represented, as all five of the big financial institutions in Canada are on the list, with three in the top 10. The highest pure-tech company is Hootsuite, coming in at third, while Shopify trails at eighth.

LinkedIn noticed a few trends among the top companies as well. They are all going beyond perks and are looking for a place they can grow and impact. LinkedIn gives Hootsuite’s stretch program as an example, where employees can spend one day a week trying out a new position.

Secondly, top companies commit to diversity through bold tactics. RBC has its own indigenous banking team to serve those communities and awards scholarships as well.

Lastly, they are all rethinking healthcare by breaking the mold through new ways to deliver care and by focusing on mental health and wellness.
