John Vandermay is joining Lightspeed as the company’s new chief technology officer.
Vandermay sports over 25 years of software engineering and leadership experience. He is coming to Montreal-based Lightspeed from his former company Visto, an adtech company based in New York City that received backing from Accel and iNovia. Vandermay served as the CTO for Visto as well, overseeing the transformation of the company from an advertising media service provider to a technology platform by building a SaaS enterprise that could operate between several types of technologies.

Before Visto, Vandermay worked as the VP of product development at Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA for three years where he oversaw global engineering and product management. As the new CTO, Vandermay will also curate a blog series entitled Lightspeed talks.

Lightspeed is a cloud-based point-of-sale solution for small businesses, both in-store and online. Nearly 50,000 retailers in and restaurant owners in 100 countries use the platform to process close to $20 billion in transactions every year.
It has been a good year for Lightspeed—the company closed a $207 million Series D funding found in the middle of October.
