Apple’s iOS 11 Has Officially Arrived

The latest operating system from Apple is now available for download on iPhones and iPads as promised by the tech giant at their annual keynote last week.

IOS 11 is a major update from the previous operating system, including a fully customizable control center, a smarter and more natural sounding Siri (who can now also translate American English into five languages), and the ability for Apple Pay users to transfer money via iMessage.

Augmented reality is coming to the hundreds of millions of iOS devices through AR apps, making the much-hyped and often costly technology more accessible. The App Store also underwent a redesign, a move that Apple said will make discovering apps and games easier than ever before.

Safety tool Driving Without Distractions can detect when a user is driving, automatically muting incoming notifications when behind the wheel. Apple Maps was also updated to help drivers with lane guidance to help with turns and speed limits.

Apple also revealed a handful of the airports that flyers can now navigate through using Apple Maps indoor maps, including Amsterdam (AMS), London Heathrow (LHR), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Philadelphia (PHL) and San Jose (SJC). MappedIn helped to collaborate with Apple for their indoor maps feature.

The updated software will run the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are hitting stores September 22 and the pricey iPhone X available for preorder October 27. Those looking for an Apple upgrade now just have to decide which one to buy.
