Before vs. After: Facebook Moves Related Articles Up the Page

According to Facebook, one of their main goals is to help people be more informed. This includes helping people have conversations about the news and giving people more ways to see a more complete picture of a story or topic.

In a quest to meet that goal Facebook announced today that it is building new products and exploring ways to improve their existing ones.

One of those improvements is to their Related Articles feature which help people discover new articles they may find interesting about the same topic. To date, these articles have appeared in News Feed after people read an article.

Starting today, Facebook is beginning to test Related Articles that appear before you read an article shared in News Feed.

These additional articles will appear in a unit below the link and Facebook hopes they’ll provide people easier access to additional perspectives and information, including articles by third-party fact-checkers.

As an example, during an instance when a lot of people are discussing an article about a new medical advancement, they may also show you a few other articles below it from different publishers about the same medical topic.

Smart move Facebook.
