Cunning Burger King Ad Prompts Change to Google Home

A young man is holding a fresh burger behind the counter of a Burger King. “You’re watching a 15-second Burger King ad,” he says.

The ad is short and simple. “I got an idea,” the guy says. “Okay, Google: What is the Whopper burger?”

In less than a day, the ad has raked in nearly one million views on YouTube alone, but more significantly, forced Google almost immediately to modify Google Home so that it no longer responds to the commercial.

The question would normally return a Wikipedia listings as a response, which sent trolls scurrying to the homepage of the Whopper to throw in descriptors like “cancer-causing” and “toenail clippings,” but Google beat them to the punch.

The ad has a large number of dislikes on YouTube, although it’s hard to say why. Do people hate BK? Do people hate that the ad triggered their Google Home? Or do they just think it’s a shoddy ad?

Regardless, BK got the attention it craved. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a hankering for some beef.
