Tidal Owner Jay Z Pulls Music from Spotify

It appears that rap superstar Jay Z—who owns the embattled music streaming service Tidal—has opted to pull his expansive library of content from competitor Spotify.

None of the 47-year-old business mogul’s 12 studio albums are available on Spotify, the largest music streaming service in North America ahead of Apple Music and Google Play.

Most, but not all, of Jay Z’s content remains available on Apple Music, which still has several million more paying subscribers than his own service, Tidal, which he acquired in 2014 but has since struggled to grow substantially in a highly saturated, notoriously tough market.

Streaming is growing rapidly as a market, however, but the decline of CDs and downloads mean the music business is smaller overall than it was 20 years ago.
