Google Incubator Area 120 Launches Video-Sharing App Called Uptime

Google’s incubator, Area 120—which is designed to allow employees to launch their own spinoffs—has released a group video messaging app called Uptime.

Uptime, which is currently invite-only and available only on iOS, is a cool way to share video content with friends and see how they react in real-time.

The app is limited in features, which is not surprising given the stage it’s in. Right now users must log in via their Google accounts and can only share content from YouTube, for example.

It’s unclear how many resources Google will commit to Uptime to render it a fully fledged app, but for now it’s a fun experiment and the beginning of what we hope is a lot more to launch from Area 120.
