Google Acquiring Data Science Company, Report Suggests

Google is acquiring Kaggle, if a report from TechCrunch is to be believed. Kaggle is a platform for data scientists to compete in machine learning competition.

Soruces tell TechCrunch the news could be made official as soon as tomorrow, although Kaggle cofounder denied the rumor to TC and Google declined to comment.

Google recently worked with Kaggle to host a machine learning competition, so we know they’re close. And Kaggle—which TC expects Google will continue to run separately—has a community of data and AI experts that could prove useful to Google.

Kaggle launched in 2010 and has since raised close to $13 million from a range of investors, including Google chief economist Hal Varian.
