Verizon Launches New Unlimited Data Mobile Plan

Unlimited data on the Verizon network has arrived. Beginning today, Verizon says that it is offering an introductory plan that gives customers unlimited 4G LTE data on their smartphones.

With Verizon Unlimited, users also get HD video streaming, Mobile Hotspot, calling and texting to Mexico and Canada and up roaming in Mexico and Canada, the carrier says.

“Everything we’ve done is to provide the best experience on the best network—and we’ve built it for the future, not just for today,” said Ronan Dunne, president of Verizon’s wireless division. “We also fundamentally want you to have more choice. We’re not limiting you to a single plan.”

The plan costs $80 and allows full speed until 22GB of data is used per month, at which point “we may prioritize usage behind other customers in the event of network congestion,” Verizon says (AKA your speed will be throttled, and probably severely—still, it’s a generous ceiling by mobile data standards).

Verizon’s network covers 2.4 million square miles.
