97 Companies File Legal Brief Opposing President Trump’s Immigration Ban
A group of companies, many of them tech, have filed a legal brief opposing President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration.
97 companies signed off on the amicus brief, including Apple, Facebook, Google, Netflix, and Snap.
“Immigrants make many of the nation’s greatest discoveries, and create some of the country’s most innovative and iconic companies,” reads the brief. “America has long recognized the importance of protecting ourselves against those who would do us harm. But it has done so while maintaining our fundamental commitment to welcoming immigrants—through increased background checks and other controls on people seeking to enter our country.”
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, who also signed the brief, last week stepped down from Trump’s advisory council after facing criticism. Meanwhile, Snap is in the process of going public.
Trump’s tension with Silicon Valley dates back to before he was elected president.
