The CEO of Uber is leaving President Donald Trump’s advisory council, according to sources cited in Recode.
Travis Kalanick is among the few Silicon Valley elite who seemed to side with Trump, and for that he faced criticism from the left.
“I let [Trump] know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council,” reads a letter obtained by Kara Swisher that Kalanick sent to employees. “Joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the President or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that.”
Still on Trump’s team are some heavy hitters, including billionaire investor Peter Thiel and tech icon Elon Musk—but the temporary immigration ban ordered by Trump’s administration has not helped the President’s relationship with America’s tech heartland.
