Employment in Technology Sector Remains Strong, Data Shows
Employment in the technology sector ended 2016 strong, new data shows.
According to CompTIA, a technology association, most of the technology sector added jobs. For example, in December alone, software and technology services added 4,100 positions, while information technology added 5,100 jobs. However, some areas shrunk slightly. Telecommunications, for example, lost 2,100 positions.
Throughout 2016, telecommunications was a weak point. Indeed the industry shed 24,000 jobs during the year. But most performed well, especially IT services.
“During 2016, IT services added an estimated 79,300 jobs, making it the primary driver of job growth in the sector,” noted Tim Herbert, senior vice president for research and market intelligence at CompTIA.
Looking across all sectors, IT services remained as popular.
“During the fourth quarter of 2016 a net 337,000 IT jobs were added to the economy, a strong finish to the year,” Herbert said.
