Facebook Turns Messenger into Gaming Platform

Facebook is going to enable users to play games such as Words with Friends and Pac-Man within its Messenger app.

In the latest version of the app, open a conversation with a friend, tap on the game controller icon, and choose a game. After you finish a round, people in the conversation will see your score and have the opportunity to challenge you back, according to Facebook.

“The one billion people who use Messenger every month connect, banter and share in so many ways,” says Andrea Vaccari, Product Manager, Messenger. “Now they can connect and compete over their favorite games. We think this is just the beginning for games on Messenger.”

Among the early adopters of this platform on the developer side is Canada’s Big Viking Games, a launch partner who today announced a multi-million-dollar fund for creators to publish games on Messenger.
