Samsung’s Next Flagship Phone Will Feature Viv, an AI Assistant from Creators of Siri

Samsung’s next flagship phone, the Galaxy S8, will feature “Viv,” an artificial intelligence assistant created by the same team who built Siri, Apple’s virtual concierge.

Samsung acquired Viv last month. The startup is headed by Dag Kittlaus, co-creator of Siri. Samsung plans to integrate the AI platform into its Galaxy lineup, as well as home appliances and wearable devices, according to Reuters.

The Galaxy S8 is slated to ship next year and its launch will be key in helping Samsung recover from its Note 7 debacle, which involved a massive recall due to exploding batteries.

As for Siri, Apple has been acquiring AI and voice-based startups recently to bolster its digital assistant.
