General Motors, an Investor in Lyft, Lands Partnership with Uber

Uber said this week that it will partner with Maven, a car-sharing service by General Motors, enabling Uber drivers to rent GM cars.

Maven, which operates in 10 cities in the US, will allow Uber drivers to rent GM vehicles such as the Cruze and Malibu on a weekly basis for $179 for both work and personal use.

General Motors is a major investor in Lyft, Uber’s top competitor in the US. With Lyft, GM has Express Drive, another car rental program. Lyft says it is “expected” that vehicle access programs have “multiple partners,” and added that the core component of Lyft’s relationship with GM is developing autonomous driving technology.

Uber is working on autonomous technology as well, though separately.
