Google Acquires Eyefluence, Which Does Eye-Tracking for Virtual and Augmented Realities

Google has acquired Eyefluence, a startup specializing in eye-tracking technologies, especially for virtual and augmented reality projects.

Jim Marggraff founded the company in 2013 “with a mission to transform intent into action through your eyes,” he says.

“We recognized an opportunity to create a more natural, intuitive way to interact with augmented and virtual reality displays,” Eyefluence’s CEO wrote online. “Over the last three and a half years we have built an incredible team, advanced our eye-interaction technology, and created strong partnerships that have lead to the development of a completely new language for eye-interaction.”

Google, we know, is heavily invested in both VR and AR. It has both Cardboard and Daydream and seems to constantly pushing the envelope with ideas related to mixed reality.

“With our forces combined, we will continue to advance eye-interaction technology to expand human potential and empathy on an even larger scale,” Marggraff said of the new union.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
