Microsoft Looks to Quietly Abandon Band Wearable

Microsoft launched Band in 2014 as a wrist wearable to complement its other products, but the device went the route of the Zune and never took off.

This week Microsoft quietly removed all Band models from its online store. It also shut down the Band Software Development Kit.

On top of that, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the company does not plan to launch a third generation of the Band this year after releasing a second-gen version in 2015.

The Band was never well-regarded. It was not cheap, yet utility was limited and battery life was poor. There’s no word on whether Microsoft has plans to re-enter the wearable space, but for now the company has exited the market with a whimper.
