Disney, Salesforce Considering Bids on Twitter: Report

Walt Disney Co. is interested in Twitter, according to people familiar with the matter, and so is Salesforce.

Sources cited in Bloomberg suggest that both companies are working with financial firms to consider options; Twitter, in response, is now evaluating the details of a potential sale.

Talk of a Twitter sale has been increasing recently, given the company’s stagnant growth and inability to profit. Disney, which owns ESPN, could utilize Twitter as a distribution platform for entertainment and sports.

Quoth Bloomberg:

A union with Twitter would give Disney much larger exposure to the ad dollars that are increasingly flowing to social media sites, according Paul Sweeney, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst. “Twitter may give them an opportunity to communicate directly with their customers in an increasingly fragmented media landscape,” he said.

Twitter has a current market value of $16 billion.
