Instagram, at first, seemed to hate photographers. Low resolution images, only in square shapes, with no ability to zoom on detail.
It’s taken years, but first we saw a resolution bump, then we saw multiple aspect ratios, and now we finally have zoom. The feature was released on iOS today and works on both photos and videos.
Today we’re bringing ZOOM to Instagram on iOS! Pinch to zoom on photos & videos in feed, on profiles and on Explore pic.twitter.com/j1g4JQozK2

However, Instagram is still lacking features. We can’t rotate our phones to get full-screen views of landscape photos, for example, and the maximum resolution already needs another bump as smartphone screens continue to get bigger and higher-res.
The feature will roll out on Android devices next month.
