Amazon now has nearly 270,000 employees worldwide. But that’s not the crazy part. The crazy part is that a staggering 86,000 of those workers have been hired in the last year.
The ecommerce behemoth added almost 24,000 employees to its workforce in the last quarter alone, a total boost of nearly 10%, bolstering its headcount by 47% since a year ago. These figures include part-time workers but not seasonal employees.
Last quarter Amazon’s net sales skyrocketed 31% to more than $30 billion, crushing Wall Street estimates. The company was boosted by its cloud computing division: Amazon Web Services posted $718 million in operating income, or 56 percent of the company’s overall operating income.
