Apple Moves Ahead with Plans for Reality TV Series, ‘Planet of the Apps’

Apple is progressing with its forthcoming reality television series. Called Planet of the Apps, the unscripted reality show will focus on the app economy.

Co-produced with Propagate, a production company co-owned by Ben Silverman, known for The Biggest Loser, Apple this week posted an open casting call. Apple is seeking app creators who want to “shape the future, solve real problems, and inspire change within our daily lives.”

The developers on the show will receive mentoring, and those who make it to the show’s final round will meet with venture capitalists looking to invest millions of dollars—and winning apps will be placed prominently in the App Store.

“Over 2 million apps are available on the App Store, with new apps published every day,” said Silverman.  “Planet of the Apps will give app creators the chance to break through and share their ideas with the world.  This is an exciting format that taps into what is driving culture today.”

Shooting for Planet of the Apps is expected to begin by the end of this year and will air by the end of next year.
