A group of five notable companies want autonomous vehicles in the hands of consumers as soon as possible.
Google, Ford, Uber, Volvo, and Lyft are forming a coalition to help bring self-driving cars to market through a push for federal action.
In a statement, the group said it will “work with lawmakers, regulators and the public to realize the safety and societal benefits of self-driving vehicles.”
All five companies that form the coalition are developing autonomous technology.
Currently, self-driving cars are legal—with many restrictions—in only a select few regions worldwide.
