Instagram, Like Facebook and Twitter, to Focus on Relevance of Content Over Chronology

Instagram is moving away from showing the most recent posts first to content based on showing algorithmically determined relevance.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, already does this.

“This means you often don’t see the posts you might care about the most,” the service said in a message to users on Tuesday.

Twitter, too, recently begun rolling out a similar change.

“When you open Twitter, it can feel like you’ve missed some of their most important Tweets,” the company said. “Today, we’re excited to share a new timeline feature that helps you catch up on the best Tweets from people you follow.”

Like Twitter, Instagram will be integrating this new standard gradually, to avoid backlash.
