Now that Slack is toying with voice and video services, the Canadian-born platform is increasingly becoming a competitor to Microsoft’s Skype.

Enough so that apparently Microsoft considered buying the unicorn—for a hefty $8 billion.

According to TechCrunch, CEO Satya Nadella was not convinced, not was cofounder Bill Gates, despite internal pressure to move forward with an acquisition offer.

Slack now has 2.3 million daily users, nearly 700,000 of which are paying users. Slack says it’s been bombarded with acquisition offers over the past year, though we suspect that $8 billion—Slack is currently valued at between $3- and $4-billion, reports suggest—has been the highest offer.
