Canada is among Spotify’s fastest-growing markets.

Knowing this, the company is trying to give its streaming service as local an appeal as possible.

Spotify’s free tier, which has 75 million global users—far more than the roughly 20 million paying monthly—is supported by ads.

This move will position Spotify as a complement to terrestrial radio, according to The Globe and Mail.

The company launched in Canada in 2014.
