Soundpays Launches Mobile Wallet in Canada with Aim to Give Back

Soundpays has partnered with several Canadian charities for the launch of their mobile wallet in Canada.

The Toronto-based startup app enables secure transactions using sound waves, and is the first mobile wallet to do so.

The intent of partnering charities is to give early users a place to try out the new mobile wallet.

The alliance allows users to make a $5 donation to the partnering charity of their choice using the Soundpays app. The startup has pledged to add an additional $1 to every donation, and cover transaction costs. The goal is to reach $100,000.

“Going forward, we will look to partner with a charity that can bring hearing aids to those in need around the world,” says Colin Turnbull, head of marketing and PR for Soundpays.

The team is also working with shop.ca to bring discounts for Soundpays mobile wallet purchases – more specifically an advent calendar for the holidays, which will reveal a new item available for purchase each day.

The aim of the launch in Canada is to show investors that only when people download the Soundpays app, they will use it, says Turnbull.

Among the list of charities include the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Feed The Children, Doctors Without Borders, Make-a-Wish Canada, Oxfam, Plan Canada, and United Way.

“The goal of incorporating charities was to adhere to our corporate mandate to give back,” says Turnbull.

Soundpays allows payment from any mobile device, with the use of internet connection and a speaker.

“The benefit of Soundpays is it works on all mobile devices and does not require merchant POS upgrades. All we require is a microphone/speaker and internet connection,” said Turnbull.

The app is available for both Android and iOS users.
