Microsoft believes that computer science and coding is the solution to all-time unemployment highs among Canadian youth and the skills gap in our country’s IT sector.
The company has launched the #CodeGeneration movement to inspire Canadian youth to learn more about coding by issuing weekly online challenges designed to teach the basics of coding, from now to Computer Science Education Week in December.
By 2019, the projected skills gap in the Canadian IT sector is expected to be 182,000 jobs. Microsoft says that computer science and coding are the keys to unlocking Canada’s potential.
Students who complete Microsoft’s weekly challenges will have the chance to win points towards prizes while learning the basics of coding. As a supporter of Code.org, Microsoft Stores across Canada will be hosting coding sessions during Computer Science Education Week so everyone has the chance to learn the basics of coding.
