This Thursday is Bring in Your Parents Day, according to LinkedIn Canada.
To celebrate the annual day, LinkedIn Canada has released its “Lighthouse Parents Study,” which reveals that 44% of Canadian parents often withhold their true feelings about their children’s choices at work.
According to the report, 38% of Canadian professionals feel they didn’t receive enough career advice from their parents, and while 86% of parents know what industry their child works in, 24% do not understand what they do at work on a day-to-day basis.
If you want your parent to understand what the heck it is you do every day, try being a teacher, farmer, or firefighter—these professions give parents confidence in descriving the role, alongside pilots, lawyers, and architects.
But if you’d rather keep them confused, consider career roles as sports team manager, engineer, or public relations manager—or, to really confound them, become a a data scientiest, sub editor, or user interface designer.
