Noel Biderman, Chief Executive Officer of Avid Life Media, which operates Ashley Madison, has stepped down from his role in the company following a major hack.

“This change is in the best interest of the company and allows us to continue to provide support to our members and dedicated employees,” the company said in a statement. “We are steadfast in our commitment to our customer base.”

The company will be led by its current management team while a new CEO is appointed.

“We are actively adjusting to the attack on our business and members’ privacy by criminals,” the company stated. “We are actively cooperating with international law enforcement in an effort to bring those responsible for the theft of proprietary member and business information to justice.”

As a result of the hacking scandal, it has been revealed that Ashley Madison’s userbase consisted almost entirely of males and bots—no actual women actively seeking affairs, as is the premise of the website.
