Facebook has started testing a new service dubbed “M.”
M is a personal digital assistant that lives inside of Facebook’s Messenger app. The assistant, similar to Apple’s Siri, “completes tasks and finds information on your behalf,” according to the social network company.
“It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people,” explains Facebook’s Dave Marcus. “It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and way more.”
Marcus admits that M is in early days, but calls the pilot project “an exciting step towards enabling people on Messenger to get things done across a variety of things.”
