With established software and hardware, a treasure trove of tech patents, and no debt, BlackBerry could be an attractive asset for an affordable price—but CEO John Chen says the company simply isn’t for sale right now.
“I don’t have any intention to sell BlackBerry,” Chen said on CBC’s The Exchange with Amanda Lang.
Chen says before ever thinking about a sale, he must complete BlackBerry’s turnaround. He says his company is currently about halfway turned around.
Part of that turn around involves transitioning BlackBerry from a smartphone company to a software company. However, Chen says hardware will remain a significant component of BlackBerry’s business.
