Netflix could soon reach a bigger audience than any of America’s biggest broadcast networks.
An analysis by FBR Capital Markets suggests the streaming service is already on par with ABC and NBC and, given its compound annual growth rate of 40% versus traditional television’s decline, is only one year away from taking over CBS and Fox too.
Netflix is difficult to compare to these broadcasters though. VOD and DVR viewing, as well as online video views, are only partly tracked by Nielsen TV ratings, which was the source of data used by FBR Capital Markets during its forecast.
Netflix now has more than 62 million users worldwide. In Canada, Netflix is extremely popular. More than 15% of Canadians actively use the video streaming service and during peak Internet usage hours, Netflix content can account for more than one-third of traffic.
