Canadian Game Studio Lands Investment from South Korean Giant

A Canadian game development studio has raised a $5 million investment from South Korean online game giant NCSoft.

NCSoft is using This Game Studio, based in Vancouver, to expand its games to North America, reports VentureBeat.

Quoth VB:

Michael Chang, who was recently appointed senior vice president of corporate development at NCSoft West in San Mateo, Calif., said in an interview that the new studio has veteran founders who have had a lot of success building a good team and hit games. Chris Ko, a cofounder of This Game Studio, said in an interview that the company … is in discussions to secure licenses and partnerships with big entertainment companies that own intellectual property that could be used in games.

“You will see us become more active on investments and acquisitions in the West,” Chang told VentureBeat.

This Game Studio’s early employees include multiple gaming veterans from Exploding Barrel Games, which was founded in 2009 and later acquired by Silicon Valley’s Kabam in 2013.
